Thing 23 Wednesday 4 /15/09

Well....I did it!! Completed the survey....ribbon snapping across the chest... Ha! It feels good to learn of and experience new things. (no pun intended)

Thing 22 Tuesday 4/14/09

It has been an interesting and informative trip. I have done and seen things on this project that I never dreamed, and mostly never imagined, were possible.
I do pledge to keep going and delve deeper into the cyber world. To ignore these tools and this technology, is to live with blinders on. Thanks for the opportunity Neflin!

Thing 21 Tuesday 4/14/09

The research and assignment calculators are so cool, I can't believe it. Where was this 30 years ago! To be able to just punch in your deadlines and subject, and get a complete breakdown of time allowances, is incredible.

Thing 20 Tuesday 4/14/09

I have perused a lot of these links and am really interested in the different views and approaches. I didn't realize how much there was to view on this "thing" but the deadline is here! I will keep going on this...there's a lot to learn on #20.

Thing 19 Wednesday 4/8/09

I looked at the ning and webjunction. I really like ning. It seems to me to be the answer to wiki. It eliminates all that I didn't like about wiki. Very nice. I can really see how this could be useful for library staff to bring each other up to date on last minute details for meetings etc.

Here's my link to facebook. I think I'll need to hire a secretary to answer all the messages. I'm just not that social. I am now a fan of the library through their facebook page and will get updates etc.

Thing 17 Wednesday 4/8/09

Steves jazz podcast

Well...5 days ago I didn't know what a podcast was. Now I can grab one and post it, and am currently involved with the making of one at our library. I like it!

Thing 16 Monday 4/6/09

I've messed around with youtube for a while. Here is an incredible performance by Bireli Lagrene on solo acoustic guitar. You have to watch it all. He begins to leave the planet about 1/2 way in.

Thing 15 Monday 4/6/09

I created an account on rollyo. I inserted three bookseller sites: amazon, bookfinder and abebooks. I thought that the searches would incorporate all three in a mix. I t seems that it's alphabetically based, so it takes 14 pages to get past amazon. I don't know how to set it up for specific search criteria so that it will give a more broad and immediate representation of all 3 sites.

Thing 14 Sunday 3/22/09

I created an igoogle account, with various feeds of interest to me. Everything at a glance. No bouncing all over the place to view favorites. Big time saver to be sure.

Thing13 Sunday 3/22/09

This was easy. It also will come in handy (as will all of the things) as I embark on creating a website. This is all very timely for me. Good stuff.

Thing 12 Thursday 3/19/09

I don't think I care for the wiki. It seems to have a lot of potential to be a platform for rude behavior. Of course it depends on the personalities that are having the exchange but, to be able to change what a person has presented for discussion through deletion or altering the text doesn't strike me as the best way to share ideas or enjoy meaningful debate.

Thing 11 Thursday 3/19/09

Well this was easy...but I'm not sure what good it is to me. I can see on a library site that teens could have the lure of new information about their favorite artists and such.
For an individual, having an auto-source for everything that they want on a daily basis is pretty handy. It reminds me of RSS only more broad in scope.

Thing 10 Thursday 3/19/09

The term delicious isn't new to me. We have it on our library website. What I didn't get was what a great tool it is. To take have your favorites waiting on you wherever you are and whatever PC you might be on is a great idea.
For the patron to be able to have our favorites at their beck & call would be a convenient feature.

Thing 9 Thursday 3/12/09

I have had trouble with this one. I tried to get it to display right on the blog but, to no avail. I lost the code. I'll have to do this one again.

Ok...back again. I gave in to using the existing template and got it on the page. COOL!

Thing 8 Monday 3/9/09

I have an IM account on google. I used it once or twice. It always seemed like"Why didn't you just call?" I will go into it further and see how it feels again.
In a library setting, where there are so many things going on, it just seems like one more thing to have to monitor. In an "Ask a librarian" setting it makes perfect sense, but past that even after reading all of the pro IM stuff, it doesn't seem practical in an every day, all day long scenario.

Thing 7 Wednesday 3/4/09

This was both easy and fun. I can see this being a big time saver as far as putting together graphics for programming and events etc.

Thing 6 Sunday 2/22/09

I was able to create a phrase in flickr using the fun images, but I have no idea how to migrate it into the blog. Any suggestions?

T H Pewter Ransom Font i N15 G 6

Ok...Thanks to the help from Kris Rosenberg, I have it!!!!!

Thing 5 Sunday 2/22/09

Well....This is a fun one. After stumbling around in the dark for a while I finally figured out how to create a link to my photos on flickr.
Here's the link!
http://www.flickr.com/photos/35655516@N07/

This one certainly has possibilities for library websites. Pictures from past events, previews for pending ones. I'm sure that more uses will become evident as I get deeper into all this.

Thing 4 Wednesday 2/4/2009

Ok....Now I'm getting excited.
What an absolutely cool and useful thing to have a tool like this that allows for depositing library information quite literally in the laps of our patrons.
And it couldn't possibly be easier.
Once again...ignorance has been bliss.
All I can say is that my library website navigation classes will never ever be the same!!

Thing 3 Tuesday 2/3/09

There's a line on one of the links I followed that spoke not only of the sheer size of the blogosphere, but referred to remembering how cool it was the first time you got onto the Internet. Exploring the blog search engines was very much like the first time I typed "George Armstrong Custer" into the Google search bar. Unbelievable. Vast.
I did prefer the google blog search to technorati. It's possible that it is just a visually familiar format and therefore more comfortable. I will continue to explore technorati since it seems to be the top dog.

Thing 2 Wednesday 1/21/09

This was an enlightening step.
I feel like a buggy whip manufacturer looking Henry Ford in the eye. Even from my current point of view, (the beginning) the possibilities seem truly endless. To not only post information, but to have an interactive exchange with patrons...getting a sense of their needs and making the appropriate choices, is a beautiful thing.

Thing 1 1/15/2009

Well....I made it. In spite of complete ignorance regarding blogs etc, I now have one. The process is fairly simple (especially with the help of auggie dogg) and looks to be an interesting cyber adventure though it does seem that ones knowledge of acronym's is taken for granted. I generally don't have much to say, so this is at odds with that comfy old shoe.

I do however, rue the day when the heft of a book in hand, a cup of coffee, and a rainy afternoon are no longer the norm. Things change....
